In this project, we are investigating neuronal synchronization processes in social interactions using fNIRS hyperscanning as part of the German Center for Mental Health.

The term hyperscanning describes the method of measuring the brain activity of two or more people simultaneously and allows us to observe whether the brain activity of these people converges for the duration of the interaction. This represents a paradigm shift in the study of mental disorders - from the individual to the relationship.

In this project, we first develop paradigms and routines for measuring synchronization under conditions that are as close as possible to everyday life. We will analyze the brain data together with our colleagues in computer scienceExternal link in order to investigate processes in patients with mental disorders.
